The Light Infantry Annual Reunion

The annual Light Infantry Reunion takes place each year around June and brings together ALL Light Infantrymen from the County Regiments to The Light Infantry. The official reunion takes place on the Saturday and individual battalions now also organise their own events on the Friday before and more details can be found on their individual social media groups/pages. The 1LI Reunion & Raffle details can be found in the "1LI R&R" tab in the menu bar above.

The reunion weekend is laid on by the Light Infantry Committee and is organised by the Reunion Coordinator and his team, the weekend needs the full support of ALL Light Infantrymen and is very popular seeing anything between 1600 to 2600 attend the event on the Saturday.

Access to the annual reunion is by way of a ticket which has to be applied for from the Shrewsbury office only, the form comes out around late February and a copy of the form will be added to this web page for those that do not have it sent to them. All the details are on the form and everything must go through the Shrewsbury office and around mid to late May the tickets will be posted to you.

Due to increasing costs and a reunion fund that is ever decreasing a ticket charge has now been introduced to help secure it's long term future which we should all get behind.

To further support the event a Prize Draw has been set up which has been very succesful to date, but it will need your continued support whether you can or cannot attend the event please.

Full details of the Prize Draw and the event itself can be found below along with all updates and news as we receive it plus contact details for ourselves and Shrewsbury are at the bottom of this page.

Latest 2018 Reunion News

10th October 2017

Warning Order:

A little more information about the 2018 Reunion, which is incorporating the celebrations for the 50th Anniversary of the Regiment (LI50):

This information is only provisional at the moment and some timings may change, but please note the different timings on this programme from previous years. Any changes or new details will be published when and if they happen.

After much debate over a number of years, and to keep the Reunion going longer then the anticipated 2020, it has been decided to start charging for entry. Opinion was sought about this across the broad spectrum of the LI and the overwhelming consensus was that this should happen. From now on tickets for the Reunion will cost £10 per adult, children under the age of 18 will be free. If further funding should become available in the future this figure may well be reduced. For next year only, your entrance fee will include a free BBQ.

We are planning Battalion group photographs, if I can get a professional photographer to do the business, in the grandstand of the stadium. 1LI at 1100hrs, 2LI at 1130Hrs and 3LI at 1200Hrs. Time will be tight so each battalion is asked to nominate several marshalls to co-ordinate the activity for their battalion. This will be battalion members only and no families.

We also want to get a Vesting Day contingent this year consisting of members who were serving on Vesting Day in 1968. They will form up before 1LI and will lead The Regular and Volunteer battalions off parade. Space on the square will be at a premium so it would be a great help in placing the markers if we had a good idea of how many will form this contingent. If you're interested please let your Bn Reps know (Bill Bearham, Decca Winters and Charlie Edwards). The contingent will need to nominate a contingent commander who will be able to give the words of command.

A Royal Colonel has been invited to attend this year, although we are planning on the assumption that it will happen it will not be confirmed until the end of the year.

We are hopeful that all three Rifles bands will be supporting the Reunion this year, it should produce some excellent 'LI' music!

Note that the stadium will not be open on the Friday as in previous years, Battalions are planning their own Friday night activities.

Note also that the gates will close at 1245hrs and the parade starts 30 minutes earlier than usual. Security will be tighter than normal this year so please allow yourselves time to be in the stadium before the gates close at 1245hrs. As usual you will only be allowed entry on production of a valid ticket. Application forms will be available on Social Media and Battalion websites from the end of November. They will also be distributed with the Shrewsbury Office Newsletter in the spring
